The Great Tassy Enduro - 7 Days

2025 DATES
APRIL 12  - 18th

TRIP FARE
US$3699 Per Person

Flow, forest, alpine, tech, rock, coast. You'll see it all on this epic singletrack discovery of Tasmania. Once only known for forest hiking and being an imitation of New Zealand's South Island, Tasmania finally found it's feet a few years ago. Or should we say - found it's wheels. This place has so much incredible riding in a pristine landscape blessed with hero dirt, elevation and amazing hospitality.

Join our crew for an epic riding trip with local experts, great accommodation, classic Aussie hospitality and party laps on local favourites.

We'll meet you at Launceston Airport this morning, and drive a short distance to Derby - the capital of mountain biking in Australia. Once a dying mining town, Derby is an outstanding example of how mountain biking - given the right geography and conditions - can turn a town or region into a thriving and exciting place to live and visit.

We'll head to Derby Forest Lodge and get our bikes set up and take in a briefing from our guides.

ACOMMODATION:  Derby Forest Lodge

Encompassing over 125km of purpose built mountain bike trails with options to suit all skill levels.

With massive rock features, fauna that looks straight out of the Jurassic Period, and some of the most magical dirt on earth, Blue Derby has trails to suit riders from seasoned gravity pros to families and beginners — and even a few one-of-a-kind oddities like the Derby Tunnel.

Derby on the whole, doesn’t require shuttles, but uplifts open up easy access for us, so we'll be doing the shuttle thing here, starting today, and getting in a TONNE of descending. Drink up guys and gals.

DISTANCE: 18-30 miles
ACOMMODATION:  Derby Forest Lodge
MEALS: B,L, D

The views, the quiet beauty of the sub-alpine environment paired with crystal clear streams, dark and brooding myrtle forests and remnants of the once thriving tin mining industry hidden beneath lichen and moss. The Blue Tier is a back-country descending classic. We'll set a shuttle this morning and set off on this classic.

This afternoon we'll ride the Big Chook. The trail within the trail, Big Chook makes up the second half of the Blue Tier Descent with a slightly different flavour.

Ridden as a loop from Little Chook it features a reasonably long climb up Emu Rd to reach the flowing downhill single track, which is 3km of beautiful, flowing mountain bike bliss through forests of mossy tree ferns and Myrtle Beech - if climbing isn't for you, we can shuttle!

DISTANCE: 9 miles +
ACOMMODATION:  Derby Forest Lodge
MEALS: B,L, D

An adventure trail like no other! Starting high up on the Blue Tier in sub-alpine terrain we'll be instantly treated to endless vistas of the surrounding mountain ranges and stunning coast line. Get set to ride amoungst some huge tree ferns. Giant Ash trees will tower over us before we drop in to an eye watering descent shaped in to perfect hero dirt. A traverse along a forestry road allows us to gather ourselves thoughts before we are taken in to a totally new style of environment. The wide open and untouched terrain after Ansons Bay Rd is a stark contrast to where this journey began. It's hard to keep your eyes on the trail as we climb through monolith granite boulders and suddenly catch glimpses of the world renowned Bay of Fires. The final descent darts across endless ridge lines before delivering us to the pure white sands of Swimcart Beach.

We'll drive back to our lodge and celebrate a huge day on the bike.

ACOMMODATION:  Derby Forest Lodge

We'll survey the mood and preferences in the first few days and offer the options to ride either the best of the flow trails on offer in Derby, or the ultimate in tech.

With our guides we'll head off for the the trails of your preference. The flow trails here are cleverly constructed allowing for super fast riding while the techy trails have utilised the natural land features(predominantly bedrock) perfectly!

DISTANCE: 7 miles +

MEALS: B,L, D

We'll explore the rock slabs of Derby today. The iconic rock rolls of the region are on offer today. ''Cuddles'', ''Return to Sender'' and ''Black Stump'' are just a couple of examples of the grippy rock to ride today.

We can finish the day by revisiting the favourites before a final celebration of your Tasmanian experience tonight.

Today is the last day of your trip with us in Tasmania. We'll head to the airport for departing flights out of Tasmania.

It's our mission to create lifelong friends, memories and stoke through the shared experience and joy of riding in our favourite parts of the world and we hope you'll have enjoyed the epic descending, climbing, views, people and goodtime here in Tasmania.

You're generally comfortable riding all types of terrain in the singletrack realm. Technical features are common here, along withmany flow trails, rock gardens and some steeper sections.

There is some climbing on this trip, so make sure you're comfortable with a couple of 200 metre climbs thrown in the mix.

Due to the descending focus, varied terrain and mix of flow, rock rolls, tech (if you want it) and the occassional climb, 150mm of travel front and back is best, with descending focused geometry while still allowing for a comfortable climb. Our pick - A Zerode Katipo!

No worries! We have bikes available if you don't want to bring a bike. They include...

E-Bike Option

2024 Specialized Levo SL Comp Carbon.

FROM: US$140 per day

Bike Option

2024 Stumpjumper Evo
Elite Alloy

FROM: US$110 per day

A mix of single track - forest and low alpine.

With massive rock features, fauna that looks straight out of the Jurassic Period, and some of the most magical dirt on earth, Blue Derby has trails to suit intermediate to advanced riders, while Maydena has a steeper profile and is more suited advanced riders.

This trip starts and ends in Launceston. We recommend coming in the night before Day 1 if you can. We'll pick up from Launceston Airport at 11am on Day 1.

On the last day of the trip you can fly out at any time from Launceston airport. We will be staying the night in Launceston for the evening of day 8, after the last day of riding in Maydena!

Visas are currently not required for US, Canadian or UK/EU passport holders wishing to visit Australia. If you are outside these regions, please check with your embassy. You can also check the Visa HQ website for up to date information.

A good guide makes a trip great - a first class guide creates memories that last lifetime. You'll experience your trip with a leadership team who are local, experienced and know more than simple where to go and what to ride. We make sure our trip leaders are engaging, pro-active, passionate, can read the room and are simply a whole lot of fun to be around.

Your head guide for this trip is Simon Barnett - A Derby local who knows this area like the back of his hand!

Having a lodge all to ourselves is the way we like it here. In Derby, we'll have an entire multi room lodge complex all to ourselves with firepit and all our meals catered. It's comfortable, cosy and all ours.

In Maydena we'll have 3 houses in the same complex that are all ours! Same deal, but even bigger than Derby - just so we can stretch our legs, clean and fix bikes and commune in the lunge to tell lies about the lines we rode.

Both places have bike maintenance facilities!
